A row over personal differences in a Nicosia District village resulted in three people being wounded by airgun pellets.
Police were called to a brawl involving about 50 people and were told that shots had been heard but police could find nothing when they attended the scene.


Later, at 2.30am the casualty department at the general hospital told police that they were treating a patient injured by shotgun pellets. Then, at around 3.45am two people went to a police station to report they had been wounded.

It was later reported that Residents in the quiet Nicosia village of Peristerona were kept awake on Tuesday night, as a hoard of economic migrants exchanged blows and gunfire. Three people were injured by pellets fired during the scuffles.

Just before 11pm, police received reports that about 50 people of Indian origin, were involved in violent scuffles and throwing stones at each other. Gunfire was also heard.

But by the time police arrived at the scene, the crowd had disappeared.

Later in the evening, Nicosia General Hospital’s Accident and Emergency Department treated an Indian man for injuries sustained by pellets fired from a fire arm.

Another two men with similar injuries reported to a local police station.

All three men said that fellow countrymen of theirs shot them in what was an honour attack.
