A fire that broke out in the mountain resort of Platres just after 3 o’clock on Sunday afternoon has been put out.

The fire broke out close to holiday residences belonging to the Primary School Teachers Union POED.

According to the Forestry Department, the fire burnt 1 hectare of state and private forest land.

There was a heavy presence of Fire Fighters and Forestry Department staff — including 2 aircraft and 2 helicopters in the battle against the flames.

Emergency Services remain in the vicinity as a precaution against any flare-ups.

Police call on members of the public who may have any information into how the fire started to contact the Citizens’ Service Line on 1460 or the Emergency number 112 or 199.
