Nine-man Panionios managed to beat Aris 1-0 at home in an eventful match on Monday that saw the conclusion of the first round of Super League games.
The Nea Smyrni club scored after just 14 minutes through a Vassilis Lambropoulos shot from close range, and held on to its lead despite seeing two of its players get their marching orders in the second half.
First it was Leonidas Kampantais who was sent off in the 63rd minute, and then the scorer left his team with nine men in the 87th, with eight minutes of injury time played.
Attention now shifts to European games, as on Tuesday Panathinaikos hosts Malaga for the return leg of the Champions League playoffs, with the Spanish holding a 2-0 lead from the first leg.
Then on Thursday PAOK visits Rapid Vienna after its 2-1 home win in Thessaloniki last week, while Atromitos travels to Newcastle after the two teams drew 1-1 in Athens.
