Over a million people are expected to move to and from Larnaca and Pafos airports in August, Hermes Airports Spokesman Adamos Aspris has said.

In statements he made to the Press, Aspris said over four and a half thousand flights will use Larnaca airport whilst about one thousand seven hundred flights will land and take off from Pafos airport.

“We have entered the month of August, which as you know is the month with the greatest passenger traffic in Cyprus airports”, he said.

Hermes Airports’ official data indicate that over one million people will use the two airports of Cyprus during August, he added.

Aspris further said that there has been an increase of 1% compared to last year.

Cypriots holidaying abroad prefer the Greek islands, Crete being the favorite destination so far, he pointed out, adding that there has been an increase of interest for Mykonos, Rhodes, Santorini, Kefalonia, Samos, Skiathos, Kos and Corfu.

Favoured European destinations for Cypriots this year include Bologna, Barcelona and Venice.

Referring to tourist arrivals Aspris said that 6% of passengers arriving in August come from new tourist markets such as Russia, Germany, Italy, Spain and Sweden.

This year tourists arriving from Russia have increased by 26%, whilst Italian tourists have increased by 100%, German tourists by 14%, Norwegian tourists by 13% and Swedish tourists by 13%.
