The Larnaca District Court on Saturday issued a remand order for six-days against a 37-year-old from Larnaca to facilitate police investigations of the rape of a Palestinian boy aged 10.
The court proceedings took place behind closed doors.
The arrest was made possible at around 8.30pm Friday evening after he was identified as the attacker.
Pending against the suspect is a similar case before a Nicosia court and in the past he was convicted and served prison time for murder.
A 35-year-old who had been previously arrested and remanded incustody in connection with the sex attack was released from detention.
The Palestinian boy was playing with friends in the Phinikoudes area of the town when he was approached by a man on a motorbike at around 9pm Wednesday, according to police.
The man persuaded the boy to go off with him to see his dog and later raped him under threat of a knife.
An examination found serious indications that the boy had been raped.
The traumatised boy is being treated at Makarios Children’s Hospital in Nicosia
