Police yesterday launched an investigation after thieves broke into a jewellery shop in Limassol and stole 67 designer watches estimated to be worth around €1m.
According to Limassol CID Chief Yiannakis Georgiou, the authorities were notified about the break-in by a private security firm at around 3.20pm.
“The crime scene in Makarios Avenue was immediately cordoned off and investigators are currently examining CCTV footage of the theft. The investigation is on the correct path,” added Georgiou.
Police are currently looking for two suspects.
The assailants are believed to have pried open the jewellery shop’s front door with a crowbar, which immediately set off the alarm, and then draped a cloth over the display window to prevent them from being noticed from the outside.
They stole the watches and made their escape before security guards rushed to the area.
According to the police, the shop, at the time of the break-in, was closed due to the August 15 bank holiday while the watches have been insured by the business.
