A British Cypriot man is believed to be one of the victims of a nightclub fire in Thailand after he made a chilling phone call to his friends.
Michael Tzouvanni called his best friend and said: ‘I am in the fire – there is no way out of here, I love you.’
The 24-year-old’s family have said they believe that one of the four bodies found in the Tiger Discotheque in Phuket is Mr Tzouvanni after a ring he was known to have worn was found.
Michael Tzouvanni, from Winchmore Hill, North London, has not been seen or heard from since the fire in the early hours of Friday morning.
He was due to fly home last Tuesday but missed his flight back to Britain and was enjoying a night out at Patong Beach on the island with two friends.
One of the bodies was found with a ring that he was known to have worn and the family said they are 99 per cent sure that he is dead and are mourning their loss.
Police are appealing for hotel owners to report any missing guests as they desperately try to identify the charred remains of the victims in the Tiger Discotheque .
The cause for the fire was initially put down to a lightning strike on a nearby electrical generator but there are reports also that electrical work had been carried out in the club earlier in the week and the explosion which a witness described as ‘sounding like a bomb’ actually took place in the club.
our most sincere condolenses to the family of michael tzouvanni
