An apartment belonging to a 63 year old betting shop owner from Limassol was discovered broken into last night, with robbers having made off with 189 thousand euros worth of cash and jewellery.

According to police reports, the robbers broke into the house at sometime between last Thursday and yesterday evening, with the owner returning home to discover his valuables gone.

The robbers are said to have removed a safe in the owner’s room, containing around 120 thousand euros in cash and 69 thousand euros worth of jewellery.

The thieves reportedly removed the lock of the victim’s front door before smashing a wall the safe was located in with a sledgehammer.

Police are investigating the scene.
