Fire breaks out in Nicosia buffer zone
A fire that broke out on Saturday afternoon near old Nicosia Airport in the capital’s buffer zone is under control, a fire brigade spokeswoman has said.
Liza Kemitzi also said that the fire, which apparently was sparked from the occupied part of western Nicosia, endangered the safety of a dog shelter operating there. As well as UNFICYP housing with peacekeepers forced to be evacuated.
The fire burnt wild vegetation and was controlled after four fire brigade vehicles rushed to the scene and an additional four from the district administration.
