Photo of Michael Tzouvanni in Thailand just days before his tragic death.

The 24-year-old’s body was identified through the use of dental records by forensic experts at Bangkok’s police hospital.

Mr Tzouvanni died as the result of smoke inhalation in the fire at the popular Tiger Discotheque on Patong beach, said Police Lieutenant General Jarumporn Suramanee.

Mr Tzouvanni’s brother Joseph also confirmed items found with the body belonged to Michael.

Police are still waiting for the results of DNA tests carried out on the remaining three corpses to identify them, but they are thought to be two Thai women and a French man.

Yesterday, Joseph had said he hoped to find his brother alive and described him as ‘calm and loving’.

He told English-language newspaper the Phuket News: ‘He has been missing for three days now.

‘I’ve been busy checking everywhere to find him: the prison, the police, hotels, as he could be anywhere.

‘Michael called his friend at 4am at the Tiger Discotheque on the day of the fire… I don’t know what he talked about with his friend.

‘He had already stayed in Phuket for ten days and he extended (his stay) another four days as he loves Phuket. He always comes to Phuket, especially Soi Bangla.

‘We love him and we need to find him. We have five brothers, one sister.

‘As soon as we found out that Michael had disappeared

I decided by my own to come here.’

More than ten people were injured in the blaze.

Michael Tzouvanni will be greatly remembered as a founder member and player of Maronites FC who played in the Cypriot Football League (KOPA) in the UK.
