President Christofias to inaugurate sports cultural heritage exhibition in London
Nicosia, Jul 26 (CNA) – Cyprus’ sports cultural heritage will be presented at an exhibition that opens in London on Sunday and is part of events marking the Cyprus Presidency of the European Council.
President Demetris Christofias will inaugurate the exhibition, which is one in a series of exhibitions that will open in Athens and Brussels to promote Cyprus’ sports culture. It will remain open until 8 August.
The Cyprus Sports Organisation has collected photographs of archaeological findings, spanning from the Bronze Age to the Roman Period, from the collections of Cyprus’ Archaeological Museum in Nicosia, Pierides-Laiki Group Museum and Limassol District Museum.
During the inauguration, a film entitled “Sports in Cyprus – A history of centuries” will also be screened. It is a production of the Cyprus Sports Organisation and the Cyprus Broadcasting Corporation and it will trace back the history of Cyprus’ sports since ancient times.
The children’s diaspora choir of London from Finchley, which received the first prize in a competition for a song for the London Olympic Games, will take part in the opening ceremony.
President Christofias travels to London on Thursday to attend the Opening Ceremony of the London 2012 Summer Olympic Games on Friday.
