Komi F.C – Players From The Past 23Yrs
Komi Kebir F.C was formed in 1989 (previously PAOK F.C.) The change of name was decided upon to keep the name of the occupied village in the north of Cyprus & for the team to include as many players as possible whose families were from Komi and the surrounding villages). Savvas Savvides was the catalyst for the change and continues to be the inspiration to everyone at the club.
Last Sunday, players from the past, present played a friendly match at New River to celebrate the last 23yrs. It was fantastic to see families, friends committee members & players from the original team of 1989 pull on a shirt again including Kyri Georgiou, brothers Michael & Mario Michael (who organised the event), Tom Toumazi, Kypros Panaretou, Peter Koumis and John Philippou along with Nick Hanna the current Komi coach and key player from the 90s alongside todays players including Ari Hadjikou, Dino Chrysostomou , Andy Kyprianides. It was a great re-union and one which will live long in the memory.
It was great to see so many Komi Kebir Village people in attendance. You had former Chairman Panicos Hadjkikkos who was over from Cyprus. The biggest surprise was seeing former Komi Kebir committee member Takis Kyriacou who survived a severe stroke and is well on the way to full recovery.
The game was played in great spirit in front of a big crowd.
