UN Secretary General Special Advisor on the Cyprus issue Alexander Downer met on Thursday and Friday with UN officials, Greek, Turkish and Cypriot Permanent Representatives at the UN and the Turkish Cypriot community’s representative.
Downer met on Thursday with new Assistant General Secretary, responsible for political affairs, Jeffrey Feltman, whom he briefed on the current developments as regards the UN led negotiations on the Cyprus issue and as to what is expected to happen in the near future.
Feltman who recently replaced Lynn Pascoe, is to escort the UN SG Ban Ki-moon next week during his Western Balkans visit.
Downer noted that the UN will have to see how to best put to use the technical committees in place until the February Presidential elections of Cyprus, by contributing to the creation of a better climate with an aim to continue the negotiating process once a new President is elected.
He is visiting Cyprus in a few days in order to monitor any progress made by the technical committees first hand.
Cyprus has been divided since 1974 when Turkey invaded and occupied its northern third. UN led negotiations have been underway with a view to reunite the island under a federal roof.
Dear Mr Downer please get you boss, Mr Bonkimoon and sit and read the UN charter. Because you are both in violation of this charter for not doing your jobs. You are being puppeteered by Turkey. The are how many resolutions against turkey and what have you done? A big fat narda. Turkey is in violation for the 4th Geneva convention on crimes against humanity, what have you done? narda, have you brought her to the Hague? Why not? Well it seems that Turkey is the US pet poodle and as they UN is funded by the US, you do as they say, right??
It is unbelievable that in this day and age, an illegal occupation force in violation of so many internationals laws, is sat down at the same table with the UN to ‘discuss’. I guess if we applied the same to everyday life, the rapist, murderer, thief, should sit with its victim so that the victim could further surrender to more crimes and to legalise those already committed. Jesus, what stupidity is this???
