Cypriot skeet shooter George Achilleos has tumbled out of London 2012 after failing to make the final six despite a late surge on Tuesday.
Achilleos finished the qualifying round in 11th place while fellow Cypriot shooter Antonis Andreou came in 22nd.
Achilleos – who won world titles this season and was even at one point first in the world rankings – was made to pay for his bad start on Monday as he suffered six misses and was off the mark in the rankings with a 69/75 score. His first scores of 23/25, 22/25 and 24/25 were well below the qualifying mark and he found himself languishing in 20th position.
He fared better on Tuesday with a score of 49/50 but it was not enough to take him into the top six.

Cyprus’ other competitors are high jumper Kyriakos Ioannou, shot put champion Apostolos Parellis, hammer throw athlete Constantinos Stathelakos, sprinter Eleni Artymata and rhythmic gymnast Chrystalleni Trikomiti..
