UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has expressed a keen interest in finding a solution to the Cyprus problem, which would reunify the island and its people, divided since the 1974 Turkish invasion.
Receiving the credentials of Cyprus` new Permanent Representative to the UN Nicholas Emiliou, the UN chief said he looked forward to close cooperation with Cyprus to address the challenges ahead, from climate change to the eradication of poverty to maintaining peace and stability in every corner of the world.
Emiliou expressed gratitude for Ban`s untiring efforts to reach a solution of the Cyprus problem and briefed him on the government`s positions concerning the latest developments.
He said Cyprus attributed great importance to multilateral diplomacy and supported the central role of the UN in global governance, especially in maintaining peace and stability.
