POP star Peter Andre overcame his fear of heights – to scale a 32-foot chocolate-inspired climbing wall.
Dozens of fans were at Alton Towers yesterday to watch the singer tackle his vertigo fears before the theme park had even opened.
After launching the attraction, Peter then signed autographs and posed for pictures with fans before they attempted to climb the wall themselves.
Peter told The Sentinel: “I have a huge fear of heights and I conquered my fears by climbing the chocolate wall.
“Me and my family have had a fantastic time at Alton Towers.
“We stayed in the hotel on Monday night and the kids have enjoyed the waterpark and the theme park. We will definitely be back.”
The latest temporary Alton Towers attraction has been inspired by the Rocky chocolate bar and features the climbing tower, which has a chocolate waterfall, flowing at a rate of 70,000 litres an hour.
Visitors who scale the Mount Rocky tower are rewarded with a cup of melted chocolate and a Rocky bar.
Alison Shapland was among the fans who met Peter.
The 35-year-old, of Tean, who works as a supervisor at Morrisons supermarket, said: “We came to Alton Towers especially to see Peter Andre.
“We’re really big fans. I met him when he visited Asda at Wolstanton last year. I think he is a lovely man.”
Alison’s son Jack Murray was one of the first youngsters to try the climbing wall.
The nine-year-old said: “I have been on climbing walls before, but this one is really good. I like all the chocolate.”
Jack added: “We always watch Peter Andre on television.”
Nicola Lovatt, a 21-year-old customer services adviser, of Cheddleton, said: “My friend read about Peter Andre coming to the theme park in The Sentinel so I changed my day off so that I could see him.
“I was so pleased when he had his photograph taken with me.
“I felt like a little girl again.”
An Alton Towers spokesman said: “We have a good relationship with Rocky and have just launched a two-for-one entry on-pack promotion with them.
“They were looking for a venue for their climbing wall and they thought of us.
“It is something different for the park and good because it is an experience unlike any of our rides.”
She added: “It is great to have Peter Andre here to launch the wall.
“His fans have had a great time and he did a really good job of conquering his fear.”
