Turkish Cypriot daily Haberdar newspaper (07.04.12) reports that Dervis Eroglu briefed last week the inhabitants of occupied Morfou area on the Cyprus problem. Noting that from time to time it is said that “the state sacrifices Morfou”, Eroglu pointed out that this is definitely not true. Eroglu argued that there are people, who protect their lands in Morfou area, that the “people” will protect this area and that the “state” will fulfill its duty.
“The state cannot sacrifice Morfou”, he alleged recalling that he is carrying out the negotiations on behalf of the “people”, that his views of the territory are known and that the inhabitants should not be worried.
Eroglu said they want an agreement by which as few people as possible will be removed and the people will not become refugees for the second or third time. He argued that his duty is not to please President Christofias, but to achieve an agreement by which his “people” will live in peace and security. Eroglu said that even if the leaders reach an agreement, this agreement will be submitted for the approval of the people.
Referring to the water transfer from Turkey, Eroglu said that it will start coming to the occupied area of Cyprus on 7 March 2014.
