A five-year-old boy brought 50 packets of heroin into school for a show and tell lesson after finding the drugs in his stepfather’s jacket.

The boy was showing the narcotics to his classmates at the US school in Bridgeport, Connecticut, when a teacher noticed and called the police.

The child’s stepfather, Santos Roman, was arrested when he went to the school to retrieve the drugs, which had a street value of around £300 ($500).

“Children bring to school what they find at home,” Bridgeport superintendant Paul Vallas told the Connecticut Post.

Vallas added he thought the boy had taken the jacket to school without realising what was hiddem inside.

Roman has been charged with the possession of drugs and risk of injury to a minor and is being help on bail equivalent to nearly £63,000.
