A MAN was trapped in his own home when a tree fell down in strong winds overnight.

The tree blocked the front door and windows when it fell on to the roof of the house in Cherrydown Avenue, Chingford, and damaged a car parked in the driveway.

It took 15 firefighters nearly half an hour to cut away branches to free 64-year-old Roger Gallop, who was able to leave his home at 12.30am.

The tree has now been chopped up by the London Fire Brigade and tree surgeons
