BLUSTERY weather has caused thousands of pounds of damage to parks and roads across the borough this week.
After Tuesday’s stormy weather 15 trees were reported to have fallen down, including one in Hamilton Avenue that damaged a car.
Six trees were blown over in parks including one branch from a Chestnut tree in Pymmes Park, in Victoria Road, Edmonton, which cause £2,000 worth of damage to fencing and gates.
Enfield Council’s parks service are working to remove and recycle felled trees and repair damage.
The authority’s tree contractors also had to clear trees that fell in Westminster Drive, Chartsworth Drive, Longfield Avenue, Kingsfield Drive, The Ridgeway, East Lodge Lane, Clay Hill and Theobalds Park Road.
Chris Bond, cabinet member for environment, said: “Thankfully no one was hurt when these trees came down. We are now working hard to repair the damage and remove the fallen trees so that residents can travel about safely and enjoy our parks this weekend.
“Our highways and parks teams have worked extremely hard to make safe and clear fallen trees in the last few days and that work will continue until we’re sure every tree in the borough is safe.
“In the mean time if people spot a tree that they think has been damaged by the high winds, they should ring us so we can investigate. The safety of our residents is our main priority and we’ll be doing everything necessary to ensure this borough keeps moving and obstructions are cleared quickly and efficiently.”
