First Division
New Salamis started the season like they finished last season, have been ever present leaders all season. An unbeaten 100% record not even a draw. Their only disappointment is getting knocked out of the FA Carlsberg Cup and the LFA cup which they are the current holders. Kyri Portou has been a revelation for them.
Verdict: Champions
Tripimeni second in the League have only had two defeats one versus New Salamis and the other a shock home defeat to Dynamo 1-5. Steve Sinotti has picked his team up and not lost since and are having a good run , they are in the last 16 of the FA Carlsberg Cup and are also still in the LFA Cup.
Verdict: Runners Up
The selection of places for the remaining teams is very close in fact from 3rd place down are all in danger still of relegation as well as chasing third place.
AEL newly promoted so far have been the better of the three promoted teams. Their manager Andy Neofitou has done very well in establishing AEL in the first division. They have lost Rakim probably for the rest of the season through injury and will be hoping George Michael keeps popping in the goals.
Verdict Fifth Place
Panthea have been a disappointment this season, they have had several injuries this season and have not been able to settle but with Danny Bailey’s guidance I’m sure they will recover and play good football as we know they can.
Verdict: Third Place
Omonia last year’s second division champions have been inconsistent this season accounting for them going up and down the table. I’m sure Tony Philippou and Vas Soteriou will get them to settle down and improve their goal scoring rate which has been their weakness.
Verdict Sixth Place
Dynamo started the season very well as they always do but have recently faded away. They have not been able to field a full team in recent games. On their day they can beat the best as they proved on numerous times when they have beaten New Salamis and Tripimeni. They will be hoping that they get their full team back and Anthony Macdonald starts banging in the goals otherwise they will be in trouble.
Verdict: Relegation
Brotherhood must be glad they don’t have to play New Salamis again this season they had two heavy defeats against them letting in eighteen goals and scoring four against them. Apart from those two games they have been playing well under new manager George Stavrou and with powerhouse Apostolos Yiannakas and free scoring Aaron Kennedy in their team they will always be a danger to the other teams.
Verdict: Fourth Place
Rizokarpasso have been playing good football all season a pleasure to watch them well organised capable of upsetting any team and they got Harry Vazanias always popping up to score vital goals.
Verdict Seventh Place
Cetinkaya Cinar struggled at the beginning of the season and have managed to find their feet in the later stages and although they are near the bottom they are capable of beating anyone in this division.
Verdict: Relegation
Aradippou have been a tough team to beat and their star player Danny Vera pulls lots of goals out of the bag but that has not been enough to pull Aradippou out of the relegation zone.
Verdict: Relegation
Second Division
Olympia what a revelation they have been after finishing last season bottom of the table are now top and looking down at the other teams. Their manager Andy Christou has done a tremendous job to take them there. The test is now if they can stay the pace recent defeats versus Komi Kebir and Pendayia suggest they are going to have a tough time.
Verdict: Third Place
Apoel who were relegated from the first division look as if they will make a return journey. They are comfortable in their games and under Andy Fellahoudi and Gursel Gulfer who had to start from scratch and now have a good set of players with keeper Darren Behcet and midfielder Jason Mason outstanding.
Verdict : Champions
Maronites are a tough nut to crack they always fight to the end but they have drawn too many games that could be their downfall. Star player is Adam Ali can’t stop scoring.
Verdict Fourth Place
Pantel are going from strength to strength with Israel the key man scoring goals freely for Pantel. Lakis the new Pantel manager has turned them round into a formidable outfit.
Verdict: Second Place
Anorthosis are the disappointment of the season they have a bunch of very good quality players that are not fulfilling their potential. They have a blend of experience and Youth. If their manager Mario Koureas can get the best out of them they will be a force.
Verdict: Fifth Place
Komi Kebir is a team I fancy to get some good results in the second part of this season they have become a solid organised team under manager Nick Hanna and they will have a lot of say on who gets promoted to the first Division. Star players are Volkan and Jason Lambri.
Verdict: Sixth Place
Pendayia are ever improving under their new manager Chris Athanassi they are a well disciplined team and they have began to get results. Their star player is Nicos Nicou.
Verdict: Seventh Place
Arachne they have struggled at times to put a team together but when they do, they can give any team a battle. They could be a surprise team for the TIUTA Divisional Cup. Key player is their goalkeeper Aiden Lynch.
Verdict Eighth place
Achna have surprised me, they picked up three points at the beginning of the season and not got any points since. They have recently picked up and can give any team in this division a tough game under the management of David Voskou.
Verdict: Bottom
Cyprus Youth KLN who had difficulties at the beginning of the season have found their feet under the management of Jimmy Cattle and Paul Brian. Their new young committee have also been brilliant. I believe they are on the right track and will be picking up points very soon. Star player is Rio Brian.
