HERTFORDSHIRE Constabulary has appealed for volunteers to become special constables.

The new Would Your Face Fit in Here? campaign aims to recruit candidates willing to spend 16 hours a month fighting crime in the county.

Specials have the same powers and uniform as regular police officers, and must be aged at least 18 and in general good health.

Special chief officer David Tewkesbury said: “Special constables come from all walks of life – some have high-flying careers and others volunteer their free time in between juggling motherhood or studying.

“We welcome people from diverse backgrounds and we hope more faces will join our special constabulary.

“We are interested in hearing from anyone with an interest in helping their community, reducing crime and anti-social behaviour, and taking part in a range of local initiatives.

“It is immensely rewarding and you will receive training that you can use in other areas of your life.”
