New Salamis 11 Brotherhood 4: When I told someone the score of this game they thought I was talking about a volleyball game. New Salamis annihilated Brotherhood they were winning 9-0 half time and looked like they were going to break goal scoring records but Brotherhood went onto score four goals and New Salamis another two. New Salamis goals were scored by Kyri Portou 3, Richard Georgiou 2, George Gregoriou 3, david 1 Steve Valendia 1 and Jeff Hammond 1. Brotherhoods were scored by Aaron Kennedy 2 Safwar Pivano and Linghi
Omonia 0 Panthea 2: Panthea and Omonia both battled it out in the first half with no avail and it took a man of the match performance from Nick Christofi the Panthea goalkeeper who played centre half in this game to hold Omonia at bay. Second half Panthea took control and led from the 55th minute with a goal from Fotis Christodoulou , Panthea then had a penalty in the 60th minute which Sean Bean Johnson failed to convert. Fotis then scored another goal to increase and give Panthea a two nil win and put them in fourth place.
Cetinkaya Cinar 1 AEL 2: This was a close game with both teams battling it out on a terrible muddy pitch but exciting it was. AEL scored just before the break with a goal from Luke Petros and Cetinkaya equalised in the 60th minute with Salih but could not hold the score at 1-1 and AEL within minutes scored another goal through Shane Williams that ended up being the winner taking AEL up to third place.
Tripimeni 5 Aradippou 1: Aradippou showing again they are a team of two halves . They were holding out in the first half 1-1 with Tripimeni’s goal coming from Darren Gray and Aradippou ‘s Danny Vearer. In the second half they just fell to pieces and Tripimeni added another four goals two each from Vaso and Evran keeping Tripimeni comfortably in second place nine points behind the leaders. This result leaves Aradippou bottom of the table level on points with Cetinkaya Cinar but worse off on goal average.
Rizokarpasso 2 Dynamo 2 : Rizo were unlucky to only draw this game as they dominated in both halves when it came to possession and chances.
Beginning the game as they meant to go on, Rizo’s attacking was patient but direct taking every opportunity to get the ball forward both through the middle and down the wings. Their attacking dominance was evident in all four of Rizo’s defenders getting up into attacking positions at various stages during the half, but sadly they could not find the back of the net.
It was Dynamo who went ahead first when a simple chip from their own half was played down the middle and a slip from a Rizo defender suddenly left Anthony Macdonald in acres of space and he made no mistake in putting away his opportunity. Despite Rizo continuing to press, Dynamo grabbed their second goal of the game when a throw-in from the left was headed across the edge of the 18 yard box and dropped to Mike Violaris on the right hand side of the area, and he hit it perfectly first time and it flew into the net to give the visitors a two goal lead. As the half continued it seemed as though Rizo could do everything right, but score, until a few minutes before the half when a bad tackle in the Dynamo box gave the linesman no choice but to award a penalty, which Harry Vazanias slotted away cooly.
The second half played out much in the way the first half did, with Rizo attacking well but being unable to find the back of the net and Dynamo defending doggedly. With the game drawing to a close and Rizo looking to suffer an unlucky defeat, Nick Nicou popped up to give the home team a much deserved point from the game.
Achna 1 Pendayia 2 : Playing in awful slow, muddy conditions both Achna and Pendayia, fought to the final whistle as Pendayia recorded their first back-to-back victories of the season against a physical Achna side.
Despite Achna being new to the league there was already history between the two teams as Achna defeated Pendayia in the first game of the season. Although that was Achna’s only win of the season so far, Pendayia were taking nothing for granted and began the game quickly scoring in the opening two minutes when Chris Andrea picked the ball up around the half way line and despite the heavy pitch, out ran the Achna defence and hit a low, hard shot from the edge of the box to put Pendayia 1-0 up. The second goal was almost a carbon copy of the first as winger Sami Menari picked up the ball on the half way line, dribbled down the left and unleashed a good shot past the keeper to put the visitors 2-0 up. Both teams shared the possession and chances for most of the first half and just before halftime Andy Stylianou capitalised on a mistake at the back from Pendayia and his low, hard snapshot gave the home team a lifeline going into the half.
It was Achna who came out quickest in the second half, playing long balls forward and whipping in crosses at every opportunity and it almost paid off when a corner was sent in from the left and despite getting a good head on the ball and steering it goal wards, Sami had to clear the ball off the line to preserve the visitors lead. A flurry of Achna corners once again put Pendayia under pressure and on more than one occasion the visitors had to scramble the ball away as the home team struggled to find the illusive equaliser.
With the game drawing to a close, both teams having players forced off with injuries and the conditions of the already heavy, muddy pitch making it harder for both teams to play the ball around, both Achna and Pendayia were held to half chances. The closest chance for a fourth goal of the game came when a ball played across the Achna goal fell to Sami a few yards out, but some last ditch defending and a block on the line kept the game at 2-1. As the game entered its final minutes Achna continued to get the ball forward as much as possible as Pendayia tried to find a third goal on every counter attacking opportunity. But the visitors held on to give them their second win in as many weeks.
Komi Kebir 4 Arachne 2: Komi Kebir at long last have beaten Arachne , it’s their third game together this season and Komis first win over Arachne losing both times in their previous two games in a closely fought battle Arachne took the lead within a minute of the start of the game with Damien Spyrou , Komi Probably thought not again but kept their heads up and within five minutes equalised with Volkan, Nick Sohal added a second for Komi in the 15th minute and John Holmes equalised for Arachne making it 2-2 half time. Second half Komi went full speed for a win and Callum who has just come back from a bad injury scored twice in the 70th and 80th minute to give Komi a deserved win.
Pantel v Apoel was called off due to a waterlogged pitch.
Anorthosis 2 Maronites 2 : The game of two promotion candidates it was evenly matched but it had to wait till the last ten minutes to liven up but then both teams showed lack of concentration and made it exciting for the watching fans . Anorthosis scored first with Andy Rowland in the 80th minute Maronites equalised in the 82nd minute with Elias Kasoulides then Anorthosis led again with Kieron Donaldson , then when Anorthosis thought they had won Adam Ali popped up in the last minute to equalise for Maronites. Maronites are now third with Anorthosis fifth.
Olympia 3 Cyprus Youth (KLN) 2: It was really pleasing to see these two teams play a closely contested game as both teams have suffered serious problems first Olympia last season and now recently KLN. Olympia are now battling for promotion to the first division after finishing bottom last season, KLN are bottom so far this season in the second division. I see massive progress with KLN and are improving every game. KLN took the lead in the 21st minute with a penalty from Yiannis Pilavakis and to Olympia’s dismay increased their lead in the 30th minute with a goal from Yiannis Yianni making it two nil Olympia came back in the 38th minute with a goal from Kerem making it 2-1 half time. Second half was end to end football with both teams having their fair share of chances. Olympia were under pressure but when the equaliser came in the 80th minute with a goal from Kyri this calmed them down and they starting getting on top and Kerem scored his second and winner for Olympia to go back on top of the second division.
