Most bridges tend to, you know, go over the water/canyon/cravass you’re trying to avoid falling into. But in Holland there’s a new technique they’ve come up with — the sunken bridgeIn an attempt to not spoil a series of 17th century moats in south west Holland — originally designed to help neraby fortresses defend The Netherlands from the French and the Spanish — RO & AD Architects created this sunken walkway, keeping everything neatly out of view.Dubbed by some a “Moses Bridge” for its ability to part the waters, architects reassure visitors that it’s been designed in such a way that there’s precious little chance of the water sloshing up and over and into the bridge itself.
We honestly can’t work out how that’s done — What it if rains? — but we’re willing to trust ’em. Besides, it looks cool, and that’s won us over from the off. True story.
