BARNET’S got talent – so much in fact that two local celebrities turned out for the opening of its newest charity shop.
Demetri Demetriou, one half of Stavros Flatley, and Outnumbered star Daniel Roche both graced Barnet High Street last Saturday for the opening of the first Noah’s Ark charity shop.
Child star Daniel cut the ribbon to mark the official opening while the Britain’s Got Talent dancer entertained shoppers and staff with his trademark shirtless look.
“I had the afternoon off, so when they asked me to pop down of course I went. And they asked me to take my shirt off for the photos, but they never have to ask twice,” the cheeky dancing star said.
The charity provides hospice care for children across north London and south Hertfordshire and is hoping the opening of its first retail shop will boost fundraising with Christmas shoppers keen to bag a bargain.
“What a brilliant turnout for such a fantastic charity,” said Daniel who plays naughty Ben Brockman in the BBC sitcom. “It was great fun and was good to see so many people supporting the shop.”
Retail manager Nick Nicolaou was overwhelmed by the support shown. “The celebrity opening was incredible and we’ve had a really warm welcome from local shoppers and businesses,” he said.
The celebrity support for the children’s charity does not end there with stars including Elaine Paige OBE, Andy Day, Stephen Merchant, Matt Lucas, Flawless and Barbara Windsor MBE queuing up to donate a “money can’t buy” item to the charity which will be sold to the highest bidder on auction website ebay.
Bidding closes on Saturday and anyone who wants to sneak a peek at the items or place a bid should visit www.noahsarkhospice.org.uk and follow the link to the Noah’s Ark ebay shop.
