FA Carlsberg Cup

It was great to see two KOPA teams doing well in the second round of the FA Carlsberg Sunday Cup

FC Nirankari 0 New Salamis 5: This was a massive game New Salamis are the current holders of the London Football Association Sunday Cup and were playing FC Nirankari who are the current holders of the Herts FA Sunday Cup. New Salamis got off to a bad start, for the first five minutes FC Nirankari were all over New Salamis and were rewarded with a penalty which the goalkeeper Michael Kalli brought off a good save to steady the reds in the 16th minute.. This prompted New Salamis to raise their game and that they did and Jeff Hammond started the ball rolling with a goal in the 33rd minute. Half time it was 1-0. Second half New Salamis made a change and brought on Kyri Portou who increased the red’s lead with a brilliant goal when he dribbled past two players on the left and curled a shot into the top corner of the net. George Gregoriou scored the third in the 60th minute and Richard Georgiou in the 75th minute with Kyri Portou scoring his second and New Salamis 5th in the 87th minute giving the red’s a comfortable win. New Salamis now go on to play Lea Hall Sports and Social at home on Sunday December 11th 2011. Lea Hall defeated St Margarets 5-0 in a home game in the last round.

Gym Utd 0 Tripimeni 3: Tripimeni must be getting used to this cup it’s their third year that they are taking part and came out comfortable winners against Gym United who are based on the East coast in Bury St Edmunds. Tripimeni started well with Ahmet Rifat starting the ball rolling with a goal in the 15th minute and Alfie Bartram adding a second in 25th minute making it two nil and going into the break with a 2-0 lead. Gym Utd were trying desperately to get back into the game but were not troublesome and Ahmet Rifat added a third in the 85th minute to give Tripimeni a deserved win. Tripimeni now go on to play Falcons at home. Falcons had a comfortable away win in the last round versus Highfield Social Club.

 TIUTA Challenge Cup Round 1

Achna 1 Rizokarpasso 11: Rizokarpasso didn’t give Achna a chance; there were flashes of good football from Achna so they are showing promise. Their lone goal came from their player Manager David Voskous. It was 4-1 half time and Achna seem to fall apart the second half. Rizokarpasso’s goals came from Lee Semper 3 , Harry Vazanias 3 Jamie Brandon 3, Dimi Strati 1 and Nick Nicou 1. TIUTA Division 1

Cup Round 1:

Dynamo 1 Brotherhood 3: Dynamo started this cup game really well hitting the cross bar in the 10th minute and the Brotherhood keeper Anthony Ioannou making a great save from a Dynamo forward. Against the run of play Chris Ierotheou scored for Brotherhood from a free kick this encouraged Brotherhood and they got a second goal with Apostolos Yiannakas taking them into the break with a 2-0 lead. Glen Mcsherry the Brotherhood defender got sent off in the tenth minute but this did not stop them from getting a third goal with Apostolos Yiannakas putting a through ball to Aaron Kennedy to slot in the third goal for Brotherhood. Dynamo scored a consolation goal with Harry Charalambous.

KOPA  Division 2

Apoel v Cyprus Youth (KLN) Its suprising a game like this was abandoned the game was being played in good spirit KLN missed a couple of good chances before Apoel scored. Then a KLN player Kieron Wilson lashed out at the referee after receiving a yellow card resulting in the game being abandoned in the 28th minute. It’s a shame that one player stains the name of the club that are newly reformed under a new committee . KLN immediately withdrew this player’s registration and he will not be playing for their club.

LFA Junior Cup Round 3

Maronites 2 Beresford 4: Over confidence seems to get the better of Maronites on Sunday when they lost their LFA Cup game versus Beresford. They were coasting two nil with their goals coming from Adam Ali and Matt Demetriades and just before half time Beresford hit back with a goal. Second half Beresford equalised straight after the break and then followed with another goal and Beresford scored in the last minute giving them a 4-2 win. I’m surprised with Maronites in recent weeks they are not their fighting themselves. They got a big game this week against fellow promotion hopefuls Apoel so they will need to raise their tempo for this big game..
