Barnet boss Lawrie Sanchez has challenged his side to kick on after Izale McLeod’s double downed 10-man Macclesfield 2-1. The win took the Bees six points clear of the relegation places. Referee Dean Whitestone’s actions proved decisive as he awarded the Bees two penalties before sending off the visitors’ Ross Draper after the break. Carl Tremarco hauled down Mark Marshall in the box, and four minutes later the diminutive Sam Deering was upended by Town keeper Jose Veiga – McLeod dispatching both to take his season’s tally to 12. Matthew Hamshaw reduced the deficit for the Silkmen. Sanchez said: “It’s been a fantastic month considering how three weeks ago we left this stadium with not exactly terms of endearments ringing in our ears. “We’ve put together some new faces and a completely new back five from that day and we’re stopping conceding goals. “We’ve got McLeod who can create opportunities and score them. To be the leading goal scorer in the division at a team as low as us shows the goals are bountiful for him but it’s a waste of time scoring two if you’re going to concede three. “Michael Hector and Paul Downing were outstanding. When the rest of the players get fit it will be an exciting squad with plenty about it. The world is our oyster now and hopefully we can continue our run.”
Tony Kleanthous must be smiling again
