Singer George Michael has launched into a serious rant about the gay storyline featured on EastEnders.
The 48-year-old announced on Twitter that he’d “had enough” of the gritty soap, calling the BBC’s attempts at representing the gay community “pathetic”.
His issue is with the storyline surrounding Christian Clarke and his gay lover Syed.
George pointed out, “So far, Christian has been beaten up three times that I can remember and is now accused of child molestation.
“Sayed [sic] has been disowned and is now mistreating his partner shamelessly, presumably because he is now a confused bisexual after all.
The singer claims the storyline is insulting not just to the gay community but also to the Muslim community and is “terrifying every gay child that is struggling to come to terms with their sexuality”.
While he conceded that the actors had “done brilliantly” he suggested the writers need to “re-think their approach to gay ‘issues’.”
He added, “Message to gay kids in Britain. The east end of London is one of the best places on earth to be a modern gay man or couple.”
