Former President of the Republic, Glafcos Clerides, will undergo surgery Monday after being diagnosed with colon cancer.

His physician, Iosif Kasios, in a statement said that after various tests were completed, a malignant tumour was discovered and the former President had to be readmitted in the Evangelistria clinic.

The former president, 92, was admitted to Evangelistria on Monday with chronic gastrointestinal disorder but was released two days later as doctors were waiting for test results.

After serious thought and evaluation of all facts, it was decided that surgery is the best option for the patient and it will take place Monday, 21 November, a team of doctors who signed the statement added.
