Cyprus’ under-21 side will be hoping to build on their recent Under-21 European Championship qualifying win over Bosnia on the weekend by staging another upset over big favourites Germany.
Savvas Paraskevas’ side, who have endured a disappointing campaign with four defeats and just one win, bounced back on Saturday against much-fancied Bosnia to keep their slim hopes of a second place finish alive.
The Bosnians had taken a deserved lead through Miroslav Stevanovic’s 46th-minute opening goal before Nestor Mytidis equalised from close and a late own goal by Slavko Brekalo secured the three points for the Cypriots.
Cyprus will now take on Germany on Tuesday at the Dasaki Stadium in Achna with their opponents currently top of their group with a 100% record. The first group meeting between the two sides ended in a 4-1 victory for the Germans.
Cyprus’s second victory of the campaign takes them to within a point of fourth-placed Bosnia, who have seven points from five matches.
