A LARNACA-bound Cyprus Airways afternoon flight from the UK made an unscheduled landing in Italy yesterday after a 12-year-old boy fell ill.The child, who had undergone open heart surgery in London, had suffered hypoxia during the flight.

Two doctors who happened to be on the flight examined the boy and suggested to the captain to land at the nearest airport.

The captain diverted the aircraft to Venice where an ambulance rushed the boy to hospital.

But as the plane prepared to take-off, a 95-year-old passenger fell ill, prompting the crew to call a second ambulance.

The man was treated on the spot and after feeling better he boarded the plane, which departed for Larnaca at 9.15pm.
