President of the Republic Demetris Christofias and Turkish Cypriot leader Dervis Eroglou had a very fruitful meeting, said UN Secretary General’s Special Adviser on the Cyprus issue Alexander Downer.

In statements to the press after the meeting, Downer said that “they had a very fruitful meeting today, they discussed a large number of issues from the economy, the European Union to internal security”.

They had, he noted, “a lengthy discussion about the property issue and they also talked about territory and governance and power sharing”, adding that “there was a particular emphasis in the discussion on property and governance and power sharing”.

Asked whether the issues of economy and internal security had been completed Downer said that “I don’t want to preempt anything the leaders might want to say”. “We have made some good progress on a lot of those issues,” he pointed out.
