Thieves made off with a hoard of electrical equipment after breaking into a girls’ school

A window on the ground floor of the main building at Hornsey School For Girls, in Inderwick Road, Crouch End, was smashed through sometime between 2.30am and 3am on Friday, October 14.

The intruders then raided the school office before ransacking the canteen’s kitchen.

They are reported to have taken two laptops, a flat screen TV, a camera and a handful of microphones in an incident that took place just three weeks into the new school term.

One of the students, who did not want to be named, said: “We only found out what had happened when we came into school the next day and the teachers made us all go straight to the library.

“We heard that they had jumped over the gates and got in through a window inside the school office. They even robbed the school canteen and took loads of food and money.”

The school is secured by an eight foot high wire mesh fence facing on to Inderwick Road, and around the sports field.

School bosses have not confirmed whether they have stepped up the site’s protection since the break-in, but Haringey Council has insisted that the school’s buildings are secure.

No lessons were affected and the school was able to continue as normal the next day.

Anyone with information is asked to call Det Con Wendy Gilbert at the Haringey CID burglary squard on 020 8345 0886 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
