After 17 consecutive home wins, Olympiakos were held to a 2-2 draw at the Karaiskaki Stadium on Saturday by OFI Crete, a side managed by former Reds’ hero Nikos Anastopoulos.
OFI came back from 2-0 down to grab the point in Piraeus, and prevent Olympiakos from continuing at the top of the table.
Raffik Djebbour gave the home side the lead in first-half injury time and his strike partner Kevin Mirallas made it 2-0 in the 63rd minute.
At that point, perhaps Olympiakos’s focus moved the upcoming Champions League game against Borussia Dortmund, allowing OFI an unlikely comeback.
Former Panathinaikos striker Vangelis Mantzios pulled one back on 73 minutes and Giorgos Georgiou equalised four minutes later.
The draw means OFI has nine points from six games, while Olympiakos has 14.
That means that Atromitos is clear at the top of the Super League. The Athenians beat Panionios 2-1 on Saturday to move to 16 points, although they have played two more games than champion Olympiakos.
Two goals from Ilias Anastasakos in the second half were enough to win the three points for coach Giorgos Donis’s men.
Panionios have eight points from eight games.
In Saturday’s other game, newcomer Panaitolikos beat 10-man Xanthi 2-0. Panaitolikos has 10 points from six games, Xanthi five from eight.
