Olympiakos beat PAOK to go top in Greece

Olympiakos are top of the Super League after three games thanks to their 2-1 home win over title rivals PAOK on Sunday.

Olympiakos, PAOK, AEK and Atromitos all have nine points but the Reds have played the least games.

All the goals came in the first half. PAOK were gifted the opener when goalkeeper Franco Costanzo missed his punch at a corner and Sotiris Balafas turned the ball into the net.

That was after 25 minutes but the Reds restored parity 10 minutes later when David Fuster, who scored at Arsenal in the Champions League, met a Vassilis Torosidis cross with a header, just like he did in London.

It was another header, this time from Raffik Djebbour that put Olympiakos ahead on 42 minutes. Kevin Mirallas put in the cross.

The win means Olympiakos preserve their 100 percent record and PAOK miss the chance to make a serious statement in the title race.

AEK put their midweek Europa League disappointment behind them with a 1-0 away win at Panionios. Kostas Manolas scored the winner in the third minute of injury time.

Aris drew another blank, drawing 0-0 at home with Xanthi. Aris have two points from three games, Xanthi four from five.

In Sunday’s other game PAS Giannena beat Kerkyra 2-1 at home

Atromitos were in the unfamiliar position of being top of the Super League on Saturday after Kostas Mitroglou fired the Athens side to a win over newcomer Panaitolikos .

Mitroglou, on loan from Olympiakos, proved to be Atromitos’s “fox in the box” as two sharp finishes from close range either side of halftime were enough to give coach Giorgos Donis his second win of the season.

In Saturday’s other game, OFI won the Cretan derby against Ergotelis 1-0. Mirnes Sisic scored the winning goal for the home side after 30 minutes.
