The former dictator was killed after being tracked down in his hometown of Sirte.
Libya’s prime minister said he died from a bullet wound to the head after being caught in the crossfire of a fight between his supporters and anti-Gaddafi fighters.
Saif al Islam
There are conflicting reports about the condition of Saif al Islam.
Col Gaddafi’s most high-profile son was reported to be injured, possibly even dead following his father’s death.
However, Sky sources say he remains at large.
:: Mutassim Gaddafi
Mutassim Gaddafi died from several bullet wounds after being found in hiding alongside his father.
He returned to Libya to become a national security adviser after fleeing the country following an apparent bid to take power.
:: Khamis Gaddafi
Khamis, the Russian-trained commander of Libya’s elite special forces, known as the 32nd brigade, is reported to have died in a missile attack on an armoured 4×4 in which he was travelling.
Rebel leaders say he was killed by a strike from a Nato apache helicopter some 37 miles (60km) southeast of Tripoli. The story has been verified by a man claiming to be Khamis’ bodyguard.
However, there have been numerous reports in recent weeks that he was dead – and others claiming he was still fighting with Gaddafi loyalists.
:: Safiya Gaddafi
Efforts by Libya’s new rulers to bring the Gaddafi clan to justice received a blow after it emerged several family members had managed to flee the country to neighbouring Algeria.
The Algerian foreign ministry said Col Gaddafi’s wife Safiya, daughter Aisha and sons Hannibal and Mohammed and their children had entered Algeria at 8.45am on Monday, August 29.
Their fate is unclear. Libya’s National Transitional Council has demanded their extradition but Algeria has not recognised the new government.
:: Aisha Gaddafi
The colonel’s daughter used to run a non-governmental organisation. A lawyer, Aisha joined deposed Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein’s defence team during his trial.
She is now in Algeria with her mother Safiya and two of her brothers, Hannibal and Mohammed.
:: Hannibal Gaddafi
Previously a consultant to Libya’s maritime transport company, Hannibal Gaddafi has escaped across the border to Algeria with his mother, sister Aisha and brother Mohammed.
Hannibal’s playboy reputation and behaviour, leading to his arrest in Switzerland in 2008 for assaulting two of his servants, is said to have disappointed his father.
:: Mohammed Gaddafi
The rebels initially claimed they had captured Mohammed, another of Col Gaddafi’s sons – but subsequent reports said he escaped custody.
He is now in Algerian along with his mother Safiya, brother Hannibal and sister Aisha.
:: Al Saadi Gaddafi
Previous reports suggested Al Saadi Gaddafi, the former captain of Libya’s football team, had been detained but he appears to be free.
He is said to have offered to surrender in a phone call to opposition leaders. Saadi was a special forces commander and film producer.
:: Saif al Arab
The only member of Col Gaddafi’s immediate family to have been confirmed killed during the conflict.
He died in April alongside three of the dictator’s grandchildren in an air strike on a bunker in Tripoli.
:: Moussa Ibrahim
The former Libyan leader’s spokesman Moussa Ibrahim was one of the more public faces of the Gaddafi regime.
His whereabouts are not known.
:: Abdullah al Senussi
Sky sources say he fled to Niger following the death of Col Gaddafi.
Abdullah al Senussi is wanted by the International Criminal Court to stand trial for crimes against humanity.
