President Demetris Christofias and Turkish Cypriot leader Dervis Eroglu meet Friday in the context of the ongoing UN-led peace talks, for a solution to the Cyprus problem.
This is the last meeting between the two community leaders before next week’s two-day meeting with the UNSG Ban Ki moon, in New York, on 30-31 October.
Speaking to the press after Wednesday’s meeting, President Christofias did not appear very hopeful about the course of the talks.
The President said they reviewed the positions of the two sides on core issues, noting that differences remain regarding the powers of the Executive and that the Turkish side has reneged from what had been agreed on with former leader of the Turkish Cypriot community Mehmet Ali Talat
