Messages coming from Brussels concerning the preparations for the Cypriot Presidency of the EU Council in the second half of 2012 are positive, Commissioner for Education, Culture, Multilingualism, Sport, Media and Youth, Androulla Vassiliou, said on Monday
”Recently we had a team of experts from the European Commission who came to see how the organisation of the Cypriot presidency progresses and the messages were actually very positive,” she said, speaking after a meeting with Deputy Minister to the President for European Affairs Andreas Mavroyiannis and other officials.
Director General of the Centre for Fine Arts (Bozar) in Brussels, Paul Dujardin was also involved in the meeting focused on issues relating to the portfolio of Commissioner Vassiliou.
Vassiliou said that Dujardin gave them very good ideas on how Cyprus can organise cultural events in Brussels during its European Presidency, linking the history of the island with the history of Europe and presenting the past and the present of arts and culture in Cyprus.
The Cypriot Commissioner expressed optimism that Cyprus’s EU presidency will be successful, despite any delays and problems.
She added that EU presidency is a big challenge for Cyprus because it will highlights its European dimension
