Cyprus celebrates Ochi day today, the anniversary of Greece joining World War II when it refused to capitulate to Mussolini on October 28, 1940.
Parades and celebrations will be held throughout Cyprus, with the main one being along the road outside the Greek embassy in Nicosia, where acting president Yiannakis Omirou will take the salute of schoolchildren and veterans who will march by.
Today is a bank holiday on the island
