Barnet scored three times only to lose as they were on the wrong end of a 6-3 scoreline at home to Burton Albion.

Burton had taken to two goal lead thanks to Billy Kee but an Izale McLeod goal six minutes before the break had given Barnet hope.

The Bees levelled through Ricky Holmes but Kee once again found the net for his hat-trick and substitutes Adi Yussuf and Jack Dyer added to the Albion scoring.

Sam Deering grabbed a late consolation for the Bees but Burton again found the net through Calvin Zola.

The Bees’ boss had decided to leave Mark Marshall on the bench with Mark Byrne starting in his place. With Darren Dennehy suspended Anwar Uddin was paired with Daniel Leach in defence.

Barnet started slowly and went behind seven minutes into the contest.

Cleveland Taylor received a pass on the right flank and sent in a low cross which was met by Kee who fired past Liam O’Brien.

s The Bees came close to finding an immediate response. A long ball over the Burton defence was raced onto by Steve Kabba but his low shot was well saved by Ross Atkins.

After an uninspiring ten minutes of football Burton should have extended their lead.

Good work from Kee allowed him to send in a low cross for the unmarked Calvin Zola. With no defender near him the striker looked destined to score but sent his shot from eight-yards well over.

Ricky Holmes came close for the Bees but moments later Burton grabbed their second goal of the game.

Kee received the ball just outside the Barnet area, had time to bring the ball onto his right-foot and smashed a shot into the top corner of O’Brien’s goal.

Going two behind seemed to galvanise the Bees and they came close when McLeod smashed a half volley straight at Atkins from five yards.

It was a warning shot that was ignored by Albion as Barnet managed to get on the scoresheet ten minutes minutes before the interval.

A clever through ball left McLeod with the whole of the Burton half to run into and he comfortable beat the onrushing Atkins.

What followed was a five minute period where both sides could, and should, have adding to the scoring.

Zola first tested O’Brien in the Bees’ goal before Steve Kabba rattled the post for Barnet who went in just one goal behind at the break.

Burton started the second half well and nearly grabbed a third through Zola. But his half volley flew just wide of the post.

The visitors were made to pay for their missed chances as the Bees levelled the match.

A Barnet corner was cleared to the edge of the area and Sam Deering chipped the ball into the path of Holmes who took a touch and steered the ball into the corner with the outside of his boot.

But less than ten minutes later Albion were back in front.

Again poor defending cost the Bees and eventually Kee received the ball in the Barnet area and smashed his strike past O’Brien.

Barnet rarely threatened after going behind and it was the visitors who extended their advantage.

Another cross into the Barnet box was not defended and Yussuff, with his first touch after coming on as a sub, easily tapped home.

The confidence in the Barnet side had drained throughout the second half and Burton added to their lead when Dyer hit a low drive past O’Brien.

Barnet grabbed a late consolation through Deering but Burton restored their three goal advantage through Zola to round off the scoring.
