According to the economic newspaper ‘The Australian Financial Review’, Cypriot Andrew Demetriou  is on the list of most powerful people in Australia. Demetriou is the chief executive of the Australian Football League (AFL), that is the most famous sport in Australia giving Andrew Demetriou political, economic and cultural power.

AFL’s championship includes 17 teams all around Australia and each team  has over 40,000 members. Demetriou has also gained hundreds of million of dollars for the teams through TV rights. Moreover, he launches campaigns against racism, domestic violence and drug abuse and other social matters.

Notably, Andrew Demetriou’s salary amounted $560,000 in 2004, but this year jumped to $2,100,000.
