Alexandra Palace has been forced to cancel its iconic fireworks display for the second year running.
Cash-strapped Palace bosses had been appealing for funding but failed to find a sponsor for the event in November, which usually draws in crowds of more than 50,000.
This will leave Haringey residents with no major Bonfire Night celebration in the whole borough.
The nearest fireworks display will now be at Enfield Town Park, Southgate’s Walker Cricket Ground, Waltham Forest Town Hall or in Totteridge and Whetstone.
Duncan Wilson, chief executive of the Alexandra Park and Palace Charitable Trust, said: “It is still an aspiration for us to bring back the fireworks in future if we can find a way of covering the cost.”
Instead the venue will stage a weekend of free activities on November 5-6 to celebrate 75 years since the first television broadcast from the Palace.
Meanwhile Campsbourne Primary School will host its own fireworks display at the school in Nightingale Lane, Hornsey, on Wednesday, November 2.
The family event, which starts at 6.45pm, has been sponsored by Links Estate Agents and is being organised by Campsbourne’s Home School Association.
