European alumni event staged in Monaco on 10 September 2011.

Cass alumnus and easyJet founder Sir Stelios hosts evening reception.

Cass alumni from across Europe gathered in Monaco for a reception hosted by easyJet entrepreneur Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou.

More than 130 alumni and guests headed to the French Riviera for an evening reception hosted at the Stelios Philanthropic Foundation, which supports education, entrepreneurship and the environment.

Speaking to a packed audience, Sir Stelios, who studied for an MSc in Shipping, Trade and Finance at Cass said:  “Cass represents a significant part of my philanthropic activities – the Stelios Scholarships awarded at Cass every year through the Stelios Philanthropic Foundation help to ensure that these exceptional scholars have a chance to make a difference themselves. I am delighted to have been able to host this event and hopefully inspire others to give back as well.”

Professor Paul Curran, Vice-Chancellor of City University, London then spoke about the vision for the University followed by the Deputy Dean of Cass, Professor Steve Haberman who said:  “We are grateful to Sir Stelios and everyone at the foundation for hosting the event. As one of our most famous alumni, he is a wonderful ambassador for the School and an inspiration to our students.

We are proud of our 33,000 strong alumni network and regularly host a range of events and reunions in the UK and overseas.  I was delighted to see so many of our European alumni in Monaco and hope they found it a useful opportunity to meet old friends and form new links.”

Earlier in the day, alumni gathered at the Novotel Monte Carlo to hear Professor Haberman deliver a masterclass on the longevity crisis in Europe.

In the lecture, he discussed the differences in life expectancy within European countries and the implications this has for future populations, as well as for pension plans and insurance companies.

Cass has a dedicated alumni team which aims to enhance business connections and promote networking opportunities between alumni. It also encourages alumni to assist current students and support the School.

The Cass alumni online community has a membership of almost 10,000 alumni. The website allows alumni to update their details, access career services, make new connections and keep in touch with former classmates.
