Division 1

Omonia 0 New Salamis 2

The big derby of the day took place at Wadham Lodge in Walthamstow on Sunday with Lots of spectators in attendance to watch the first division current champions New Salamis versus the newly promoted second  division champions Omonia both teams had won their previous first game. The match got off to an exciting start with Salamina taking the lead in the 5th minute with a goal from their striker George Gregoriou. This seemed to push Omonia to raise their game playing very nice football, their passing was top quality but just could not create any chances. New Salamis were not at their best and seem to be strolling along and more creative  up front than the greens and always looked like if any team was going to score it be the reds. They had to wait till the 70th  minute to score, when Omonia got caught out in their opposing half  and  New Salamina counter attacked  and Mario Georgiou struck a shot from just outside the box to give the red’s a 2-0 lead and although Omonia tried hard to get back in the game it was to be the final score.

Cetinkaya Cinar 2 Aradippou 6

What a ding dong game this was Aradippou were 3-0 up within ten minutes Danny got the first two goals and Johnson the third. You would think that be game over but Cetinkaya came back with two goals in the 18th and 25th minutes courtesy of Josh and Hassan.

So it was 3-2 going into the second half and looking like  it was going to be a classic but Aradippou made it one way traffic and scored another three goals with Danny getting another two goals making it a foursome for him and Johnson scoring his second and Aradippou’s sixth giving them their first win of the season.

Dynamo 0 AEL 2

This was a surprising result , after Dynamo’s 4-1 win over Rizokarpasso last week I had them down as favourites for this game. I got it wrong AEL must be a better team than i thought this was their second win in succession after beating Cetinkaya last week. The first half was goalless and it took a mistake by the Dynamo Goalie in the 50th minute scoring an own goal to give AEL  a one nil lead who then scored a second in the 60th minute with a penalty from Rakim Richards to give them a 2-0 win.

Rizokarpasso 2 Panthea 3

Another exciting game Rizokarpasso took a 1-0 lead into the break with a goal from Harry Vazania and as soon as the second half started Panthea equalised with a well taken goal by Marvie Hamilton. Alex then scored 10 minutes later giving Panthea the lead,  two minutes after Rizokarpasso were back in there equalising two minutes later.

Both teams are not the standard they were last season but I am sure they will improve as the season goes’ on. The winning goal came Panthea’s way when in the 80th minute Chris Kyriakou scored.

Tripimeni 3 Brotherhood 0

Brotherhood did much better this week only losing 3-0 they were very disappointing last week when they were hammered 7-0 by New Salamis. Tripimeni with their second win of the season and sharing second place with AEL took the lead in the last minute of the first half with a goal from Karim. It took to the 60th minute for them to score again their second with a fine strike from Alex Roussis. The third Tripimeni goal came in the 80th minute with Ahmet Rifat scoring.

Division 2

Anorthosis 2 Olympia 6

This was the biggest surprise of the day , Olympia who only got 3 points last year to defeat the division 2 favourites and recently relegated Anorthosis who are not having a good start to their season Anorthosis have had two defeats and  10 goals against them and are now bottom of the second division after two games. It could have been different, Anorthosis took the lead in the 3rd minute with a goal from Guiseppe and in the 20th minute Olympia equalised with Vince Rispoli who five minutes later again scored with a penalty giving Olympia the lead. At  this stage Anorthosis went  down to 10 men when one of their players got sent off. This did not stop them equalising with a good goal from Nathaniel. They seem to lose their composure after t when they gave away two further penalties both scored by Vince Rispoli giving Olympia a 4-2 half time lead. The second half Olympia scored two goals with Lawrence Rispoli and Louis to give a deserving 6-2 win,  only upset Olympia is that they had a player sent off in the last minute..

Pantel 3 Achna 1

Pantel got off to a winning start with a deserved win, over new club Achna even although they were trailing 1-0 when Achna took the lead with a goal from Nicos Papadopoulos . Pantel equalised on the stroke of half time with a goal from Abbot. Pantel then scored a further two goals with Chris in the 60th minute and Kanaris in the 70th giving them a 3-1 win. Pantel had one of their players sent off.
