FAMILY and friends of two East Barnet students killed in hit-and-run on New Year’s Day 2010, are awaiting the jury’s verdict.
The jury at Wood Green Crown Court retired to consider its verdict yesterday in the case of Mohammad Afzal, who was involved in the incident in Palmers Green.
The accident resulted in the death of Carrie Maclaren who died at the scene and Chelsea Cannon who died three months later.
The women had been walking with three friends along the A406 when a car collided with them in the early hours of the morning.
The prosecution claims Mr Afzal was in the white Honda which hit Carrie and four other friends after mounting the curb.
All occupants abandoned the car and fled the scene while the five victims were taken to hospital.
Mr Afzal was charged with two counts of causing death by dangerous driving, two counts of grevious bodily harm, one count of assault and one count of perverting the course of justice
