A 36-YEAR-OLD man was remanded in custody for eight days yesterday after allegedly trying to beat up his wife in a police station and then threatening a policeman with an air rifle.
According to police, at around 12.30am on Sunday, the man tried to hit his wife at Paralimni police station following an argument between the 36-year-old and his estranged wife.
The man then allegedly assaulted a policeman who intervened.
Police tried to arrest the man, but he left the station in his car. At the traffic lights just outside the station, the 36-year-old allegedly took out a loaded airgun with a telescopic sight and aimed it at a policeman following him.
Police gave chase and forcing the man back to the station where he took aim once again, this time at the police station entrance.
Members of Famagusta CID rushed to the scene, managing to disarm the 36-year-old and arresting him.
The court yesterday ordered his remand until September 19.
