September 11, 2001 is an infamous date that will long endure as a symbol of man’s inhumanity to man, but September 11, 2001 was about remembering loved ones. The Greek American Community lost at least 27people that day and their memories were honored first at a memorial service after the Divine Liturgy at the Archdiocesan Cathedral of the Holy Trinity on Manhattan’s Upper East Side, and at 2:00 with a Trisagion service at Ground Zero. A table was set up near the spot where the Church of St. Nicholas stood, before it was destroyed at 9:50 a.m. on that terrible day, when it was crushed by the collapse of the South Tower. His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios presided over both services.
