Foreign Minister Erato Kozakou-Markoullis participated Monday in the General Affairs & External Relations Counci,l which took place in Brussels. European Commission’s proposal on the multiannual financial framework was the main issue on the agenda.
On the sidelines of the Council, Cypriot FM held meetings with her EU counterparts, whom she briefed about Ankara’s threats regarding Cyprus’ right to start oil and gas exploration in its Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ).
Markoullis requested EU involvement against Turkish threats in order to put off any actions by Turkey in the Eastern Mediterranean, saying that any possible actions could lead to a termination of the country’s European course.
Turkish threats over Cyprus’ plans to start oil and gas exploration in its EEZ by the American contractor `Noble` have escalated over the past weeks.
