Cyprus Leaders Meeting Today
President of the Republic Demetris Christofias and Turkish Cypriot leader Dervis Eroglu will meet today, in the context of UN-led intensified direct talks to solve the Cyprus problem.
The meeting takes place at the residence of the UN Secretary General`s Special Representative in Cyprus Liza Buttenheim, in the UN-protected area in Nicosia.
During their previous meeting last Monday, the leaders of the two communities exchanged views on the issue of aliens, asylum, citizenship and immigration.
According to a statement by UN Secretary General`s Special Representative in Cyprus Liza Buttenheim after Monday`s meeting, the leaders advisors were to meet Wednesday morning at 0930 to continue the discussions of this issue.
Cyprus has been divided since 1974, when Turkey invaded and occupied its northern third. The leaders of the two communities are currently engaged in UN-led talks, with an aim to reunify the island under a federal roof.
