BEN WEBSTER WINS FIRST MAJOR.

Ben Webster won his first major competition with a magnificent gross score of 73, or 38 stableford points to nick it from Michael Tsangarides on count back. Ben has got the bug again. He began playing golf again in May after an absence of 8 years due to work and other commitments. He is following his father’s footsteps. His father won the Cypressa Cup in July. He told me he had a good day. All his drives found the fairways and all his approach shots were on target. He enjoyed the golf course and was very relaxed with his playing partners. The only time I was nervous, he said, was when I had to make the winners speech.

Ben began playing golf as a 14 year old at Muswell Hill Golf Club and in a few years he improved so much that in 2001 he went to America where he played and practiced a lot of golf and received also a lot of coaching. His handicap then was .6 playing off 1 handicap. Congratulations to Ben for an excellent win.

The Masters Cup was played at Harpenden Golf Club, Herts on Tuesday 13th September. The golf course was in pristine condition especially the greens. Apart from a 10 minute shower the weather was good as well. The wind played a factor to the scores. The Masters Cup was sponsored by Tommay Thomas and Cloc Ltd of Unit 10, Millmead Industrial Centre, Millmead Road, Tottenham N17. Tel. 020 8801 6983, www.clocltd.co.uk.  First to tee off, the Captain Abe Basri with Tommay Thomas, Stephanos Stephanides and Michael Tsangarides.

The Captains Charity Sweepstakes raised £305.00 for the Captain’s favourite charity, the Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospice. So far this year £2325.00 has been raised. The lucky winner was Tony Timotheou who won a fourball Voucher which was kindly donated by Harpenden Golf Club.
